Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie
/library/ancillary-justiceI read Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie · Boltenhagen, Germany · 4/5
Breq is on a remote, icy planet and close to completing her quest for revenge. Many years ago she was Justice of Thoren, a ship AI with Ancillaries, captured humans who are heavily augmented and had their identity overwritten to be useful for the AI.
One really interesting concept in this book is that the Radchaii are not
distinguishing people by gender and don’t even have words for it.
Because of that, Leckie is using she/her pronouns for everybody and even Breq
has trouble choosing the correct pronouns for languages and cultures that to
differentiate.
This felt a bit weird in the beginning, as it messes with how you imagine a
character, but I started appreciating how it challenges exactly that.
The other concept I found fascinating is that of Ancillaries and the general
technology of owning multiple (sometimes up to thousands of) bodies and the
difficulties of that.
I enjoyed reading this book, can recommend!
